In special ceremonies at 5:30 pm preceding Pride of Kinston’s Band of Oz concert Aug. 13, 2009, Neuseway Park will be re-named in honor of Lenoir County Detective Allen Pearson. The decision to honor the slain sheriff’s deputy was made by the Kinston-Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Commission, according to Parks director Bill Ellis. The idea to honor Detective Pearson came from his long-time good friend Cecelia Parker, administrative secretary for the City of Kinston. “It’s great to do this at a Sand in the Streets concert,” she said. “Allen loved beach music and he loved to dance.” Detective Pearson, 29 at the time of his death, was killed in line of duty April 7, 2009. He had been with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Department for eight years. He is survived by his wife. His father Major Rickie Pearson is a long time member of the department, still on active duty. |

Steve Potter of Triple-R Electric, Inc. of Kinston puts the final touches on exterior lighting for the soon-to-be competed Mother Earth Brewing Company in downtown Kinston. |
Mother Earth Brewing Company is nearing completion, with President and CEO Trent Mooring hoping for an August opening date.
Since a Feb. 16, 2009 announcement, construction crews have been working diligently to completely revamp several buildings along North Street to house all the equipment necessary to operate the new $1.5 million microbrewery. The main building at the corner of North and Herritage Street was formerly called the world’s only drive-in drug store. More recently it housed a Super Saver Grocery Store.
Josh Brewer is the Head Brewer for the new company, Mooring said.
